As coaches we need to stop operating in a vacuum and realize that everything is connected. When designing practice plans and training programs it’s essential to take into consideration the physical, psychological, social, and emotional systems.
It’s common to see speed or strength camps marketed as separate programs. Unfortunately, these skills and qualities shouldn’t be isolated. Another mistake is solely relying on closed environments to expand the individual’s movement solution toolbox. Then, there’s a misconception that everyone should follow a one-size-fits all “correct” technical model. Instead, the general athletic qualities and skills should be addressed concurrently by blending the different closed and open environments. We adhere to a principles-based approach and these concepts are applied across a variety of contexts. This approach appreciates individual constraints and how this influences the movement signature.
